If you're a bit of a news junkie, interested in the open data world,
maybe like to write but not so good at coding, here's how you can
help ....

I'd like the Open NZ blog to have pointers to new releases of data,
new apps written using data, new articles about open data, new tv or
radio programmes about open data, and so on.  Not long rants, just a
single place for people to go to keep up with what's happening in the
NZ open data scene.  It's also create visible momentum, signalling to
outsiders that Stuff Is Happening.

Would anyone like to help write the news articles?  I'll give you
access to the Wordpress install that drives the site, and we can build
a kick-arse resource for everyone with an interest in open data.

Makes sense to me. Perhaps Data Release Case studies
   http://wiki.open.org.nz/Data_Release_Case_Studies
could simply be a category in the blog.

We are going through a bit of a design process for the main
open.org.nz website right now. The basics of the site map are looking
something like this:

Home
Projects
	- Current
		- Open Data Catalogue
		- Fix My Street
		- ...
	- In Development
		- Scavenger
		- OIA Tracker
		- ...
Learn
	- Case Studies
		- Northern District Council
		- Digital NZ
		- ...
	- What is Open Data?
	- Advice of releasing data
	- ...
Blog
Participate
	- Ninja Groups
	- Wiki
	- GitHub
About
	- The people
	- The Mission

The home page can have pieces from each of these. Make it nice, simple
and stylee. The idea is to make it more of a website than just a blog
and more like a company than a hotpotch of loosely connected ideas so
people can come here and feel empowered rather than overwhelmed.

Constructive feedback always appreciated.

I won't promise to be a prolific blogger, but since I'm trying to
migrate much of gis.org.nz to open.org.nz (at least the open data
aspects) - I'm willing to stick my hand up and add some articles.

Which brings me to a second point - is any design artist willing to
whack together some nice web standard size banners that we can stick
on our blogs and other websites under our control? I'd also like one
for the LinkedIn group at some point as well.

Also, have we got a fan/group page on Facebook? If we can come up with
a good means of promoting ourselves succinctly to people, we may be
able to use Facebook to promote the benefits of Open to more people,
as well as public releases of the groups projects.
