Thought I'd pass on this from Clare Curran for those that might not have
seen it first hand.
---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Clare Curran <email obscured>> Date: Wed, Apr 28, 2010 at 3:22 PM Subject: #OpenLabourNZ To: Hi there Many of you will know that Labour has been planning to embark on its first open policy process. This is new territory for us and this is an invitation to you to participate in good faith. I am approaching you personally because youve either expressed an interest in Labours first Open Policy initiative, you have strong views on open and transparent government, or because I think youd have a valuable contribution to make. Labour wants to start by developing a policy on* open and transparent government*. It wants to do that in an open and transparent way. We invite your views, your comments, your ideas and suggestions. And Im hoping you will make a strong contribution. The open policy process will launch in the next day or so on the Labour MPs blog Red Alert *http://blog.labour.nz* <http://blog.labour.nz/>. *This email is essentially a heads up and a request for you to participate as in whatever way you see fit.* We want to know what you think a good policy on open and transparent government would look like. Your input will* contribute* to Labour's policy. The #openlabournz document resulting from this process will be taken as a key input for Labour to consider in developing its policy. Were very focused on this being participatory, inclusive and something that is created by all those that support transparency in democracy and open government. Labour takes high quality input very seriously in its policy development. Labour is a political party of course, and politics will influence what the final policy looks like and how it is arrived at, however your input will be extremely valuable. You can participate by doing all or some of the following: - Comment on the Red Alert posts. - Write your own blog posts, or columns - Contribute on twitter #OpenLabourNZ, or facebook - Send emails, - Talk about it and spread the word that its happening. It would be great if you could use the using the #OpenLabourNZ tag so we can aggregate all the input. We plan to organise a public event in about a months time. Details to be advised. We plan to live stream the event, so matter which town youre in, we hope you can participate for all or some of the event. Speakers are yet to be announced. Labour is serious about this process. Its our first attempt, so were bound to make some mistakes. But it will only work if we have buy-in from people like you and I hope you think its exciting and interesting and genuine. Happy to discuss further. Can I request that you refrain from commenting on this until I've posted on it (tomorrow). Look forward to the discussions Clare *Clare Curran* *****MP for Dunedin South* Labour Party Spokesperson for Communications and IT ***[T]* +64 817 9906***** [M]* 021 242 1813***** [W]* * http://www.labour.org.nz/parliament* <http://www.labour.org.nz/parliament> Im blogging at: ***www.redalert.org.nz* <http://www.redalert.org.nz/> | Follow me on Twitter: ***http://twitter.com/clarecurranmp*<http://twitter.com/clarecurranmp> | See me on Flickr: ***www.flickr.com/clarecurran* | Add me on Facebook: ***www.facebook.com/clarecurranmp*<http://www.facebook.com/clarecurranmp> | Cheers, Mike Riversdale tel: +64 (0)21-169 1359 Skype: mike.riversdale email: <email obscured> web: http://www.miramarmike.co.nz --------- MiramarMike.co.nz - Connecting people to people via information
