Eventually the NZ Government is going to wake up and say "we want a
data.govt.nz." We should be ready for that day, requirements in hand,
so they do it right. To that end, Glen and I have started a
requirements page on the wiki and we'd like you to help fill in any
gaps we've missed:

Please register so there's a useful username against your edits. Use
the Discussion page to handle questions and conflicts, don't use this
mailing list -- the Discussion page keeps the context handy for any
newcomers.
We'll need some form of conflict resolution, should we get people with
wildly divergent views. If we get into the situation where two people
want different things and it seems irreconcilable, I'll play the role
of a Wikipedia editor and make the tie-breaker. If I'm one of the
parties in such a situation, let's use Glen as the tie-breaker. We'll
clearly identify ourselves as playing the benevolent dictator in such
a situation--in all other situations, we're just our fallible ole
selves.
Ultimately I'd like to put a stake in the ground, lock it as Version
1, and I can move on and work on something else. I don't have a
deadline for this, but I don't see it taking a long time to nail
down. Let's play it week by week and find an opportune time to say
"done!".
This isn't a wishlist of which datasets go online, it's not a design
document with database schema and page mockups, and it's not an
exhaustive list of all possible metadata systems. It's a list of
short "your system really should do this" statements. Success is
defined as: whichever chappies in government decide to build a central
data catalogue, they say, "that's handy! Those ninja folks are bloody
good value!" and listen to us on other matters.

What a fantastic idea. Depending on how far we get before then, we could run
a session on this at the Barcamp.

I think it's just you -- seems fine to me. (Screenshot attached, pre-

As much as I like a bit of cleavage as the next man, I don't think it
is appropriate to have this sort of content on the wiki. Perhaps we
should look at setting up our own hosted mediawiki with no advertising
- so that it looks a little more respectable. wiki.open.org.nz anyone?
And yes, site is fine for me. I just checked and copped an eyeful!

I think the idea is to edit this document and then post this to our
main open.org.nz site as opposed to point the Government towards the
WIP-wiki
