Does anyone know Mark? Shall I contact him and ask his intentions with the
domain?
If we can't get the domain should we try a variant? e.g. .net.nz or use
http://fixmystreet.opengovt.org.nz ?

I don't know him, but since I'm based in Christchurch, if you want to
make the initial contact (as you were hunting the domain), I could
then follow up an meet with him to discuss in more detail.
Otherwise, more than happy to see it as a subdomain, so that
opengovt.org.nz becomes the main brand - if that is what others would
like.

I would be keen to secure fixmystreet.org.nz only because this is a
service that the general public will be more likely to use on a day to
day basis and from a branding perspective the domain and name will be
easier to remember. I'm still keen to see it come under the umbrella
of OpenGovt but it the domain name would be a very nice thing to have.
So my thoughts:
I think it would be great for you to approach him first as you are in
Christchurch and sometimes meeting in person helps to move things
along. I think we should bring him on-board if he wants to join in the
fun and it would be great if he could transfer the domain to 'us' (Nat
being the trusted 'us' at the moment). So unless anyone has any
objections in the next couple of hours I suggest you go ahead and
contact him.

I'll drop Mark a line today. I'm in Christchurch too, so can meet him.
Gavin and I can both visit him if he needs convincing :-)

Yes, makes sense to see whether he wants to work with us. Join us!
Join us! Become one with the collective! Our name is Open New
Zealand and we are legion ...
Sorry, fell off the sanity wagon. Reboarding now. Move along
citizens, nothing to see here.

I met Mark Dingle a couple of years ago (I've just cross referenced his ph
num in my Contacts with his on the whois record to check it's the same guy).
He came to some of the early NZKM meetings. He's a decent guy, and likely to
be favourable towards our cause. He used to work at MoRST, and was doing his
Phd in knowledge management at Massey, so he's likely to be leaning towards
openness on principle. He also runs marathons.
I'd say Jonathan, Gavin go ahead and get in touch with him. If you do set up
a meeting let me know and I'll see if I can join you.
If none of that works then we can set Nat on him to use Borg style
techniques.
